This is an important tip for anyone adopting a cat into their home.

We recommend when introducing cats to a new home that you provide a ‘landing room’ for them to settle into. A bathroom, laundry or bedroom. This way, they can get used to the sounds, smells and routine of the home with out fear of the unknown or a big trip to the kitty litter when it is needed. Some people keep them in a room for a few hours up to 3 weeks to decompress, depending on how well they are settling in and if they are showing interest to get out or just hiding and needing more time. Each cat is unique in the way they settle into a new home.

In the landing room it’s important to have clean kitty litter on one side of the room and food, water, a bed and a hiding spot on the other. Do not ever place food and bed next to a kitty litter.

This is all especially important if you are welcoming a cat into a home that already has other pets. They can get used to each other with the safety and comfort of the wall between them.
