Adoption fees are a key component of adoption for reasons that we wish to share. We are often asked ‘Why charge for animals? Make them free so none of them are homeless.’ if only it were that simple. We will explain.
We can’t make animals free because unfortunately often that gets taken advantage of. That’s not to say anyone who takes in free animals treats them badly. Gosh no. However it opens them up to being adopted for more disposable reasons than joining the family. Reasons can include but are not limited to:
- abusing
- eating
- fighting for money
- entertainment
- temporary pets
The reason why we assign higher adoption fees to certain” high demand” animals, is to ensure we have the funds to provide for others that have special needs and/or a more difficult time finding a new home. It on average costs us 150 times more to find an animal like this a home compared to a more popular one. We can’t put a higher price on the less popular animals simply because they cost us more, but we also can’t go broke for them or we can’t help any at all, so the higher pricing needs to go on the more popular animals that will be guaranteed adoption regardless.
Payment of an adoption fee is one way of assuring us that the adopter is serious about the commitment of homing an animal and the costs involved, long term.
We here at Into Loving Homes receive no government or state funding to run. We continue to pull money from our own pockets to pay social media costs, ensuring that we reach suitable adopters, Australia wide.
We are proudly able to keep our fee’s lower than any other rescue/rehoming service in Australia thanks to our Home to Home service and ‘no shelter’ policy. As we don’t utilise shelters to rehome animals via (better for the animal and better for the nations pockets to utilise Home to Home wherever possible) we are a zero emissions, zero waste, zero euthanasia organisation and very proud to be this way.
We do like to keep our fee’s as low as possible in order to make adoption attainable for all who have a lifestyle that can afford the upkeep and benefit an animal in need.
We hope that brings clarity to you regarding our adoption fee structure.
