Guinea pigs are stereotypically kept outdoors in a small hutch, but guinea pigs need more space than that.

Despite being small animals, guinea pigs need plenty of room to run around and be themselves. Select an enclosure that is as large as possible, or at minimum 2 metres for 2-4 guinea pigs. The more guinea pigs you have, the larger the enclosure will need to be. Do not house guinea pigs in an aquarium, as it does not provide enough ventilation and can make them ill also do not house them alone.

Guinea pigs are sensitive to heat and can die from heat stroke. We advise keeping your guinea pigs in a high family traffic area- a family room or game room or nearby the outdoor play area where family members can observe the animal is receiving adequate care.

Their average lifespan is 6 years.
