At Into Loving Homes, our mission is to prevent animals from ever needing to go into shelters or being euthanised unnecessarily. We achieve this by finding them loving homes through our Home-to-Home adoption service. Shelter staff and volunteers contact us to let us know about animals they need help rehoming, and/or they also regularly advise those who need to rehome animals to contact us instead, as they have extensive extensive waitlists and most people can’t wait 6-18 months to rehome an animal they thought they would be dropping off today. Shelter staff and volunteers also love to see animals avoid shelters. Just this morning a person needing to rehome her dog contacted us from the car park of Australia’s largest shelter after they gave her our phone number to see if we can help. We can.
This year alone, we have proudly collaborated with more than a dozen shelters and rescues, extending our reach and impact in our shared mission. Recently, we had the privilege of partnering with an undisclosed rural shelter facing a critical situation of overcrowding and limited resources. Previously known for their ‘no-kill’ policy, they found themselves navigating difficult decisions (being more flexible on the use of euthanasia) due to overcrowding. ‘Less popular’ was about to become an acceptable reason to euthanise as it is across so many Australian shelters. In a time of urgent need, a member of their team reached out to us for assistance.
With unwavering dedication, we sprang into action to find loving homes for the eight cats who were most vulnerable in the shelter. By directly collaborating with the shelter staff and volunteers, we created a lifeline for these deserving animals, preventing overcrowding and potentially life-threatening situations.
