Just because a stray cat chooses to make your home their own, doesn’t mean your landlord or family is on board, so it’s essential to take steps to ensure their well-being and help them find their way back home if possible. Here are some important tips:
- Check for a microchip: Take the cat to a local vet to check for a microchip scam. It can provide valuable information about the owner and facilitate a reunion.
- Share photos on local lost animal FaceBook groups: This increases the chances of the owner recognising their cat and contacting you.
- Notify local vets: Reach out to nearby veterinary clinics and provide a description of the cat. If someone contacts them looking for their lost pet, they can connect them with you.
If it becomes clear that the cat doesn’t have a home to return to, reach out to us. We can guide you through the rehoming process. Please note that the cat will require to have health and temperament assessments as well as desexing.
Important: Avoid taking the cat to a pound, as euthanasia is imminent at most. Shelters may have long waitlists (and a 20% euthanasia rate for healthy adoptable cats), so dumping the cat there is dangerous and cruel. Instead, follow our steps to find a new loving home safely and efficiently.
By following these steps, you can make a positive impact on their life and help them find a loving forever home.
