This year many parts of Australia has been affected by torrential rainfall. Floods zoned housing can offer flood insurance (common in the regions affected) of up to $60,000 per year. A cost unaffordable to most people. Certainly, many of those in Northern NSW didn’t have it. This has meant that many people were recently unable to keep their animals.

During the current floods, Into Loving Homes provided a free community service of foster care for those affected by the floods. Donna Wild made several trips from QLD to Lismore, one of the areas worst affected, with a 4×4 and trailer loaded with animals’ food, carriers, crates, blankets, toys, medical supplies and more. All these donations were accessible for the community who needed them for the 8 months to follow, as well as for our foster carers and adopters.

But the aftereffects of the floods are still being felt. Communities continue to struggle, along with the animals who have lost their homes.

We believe that we can reduce the number of animals euthanised in shelters and pounds, by getting them Into Loving Homes, whenever possible. Our 40 flood foster carers are amazing, but it’s still hard for an animal to adjust to an unfamiliar, temporary environment. We believe the best way for animals to journey through the most stressful period of their lives, their rehoming, is from their current home, direct into a new loving home.
